The two compounds

Both are short synthetic peptides derived from naturally occurring regulatory peptides, developed originally in Russian research programmes and now widely used as reference compounds in neuroscience research.

• Semax — a synthetic peptide related to a fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), studied in neuro-signalling and neurotrophic research.
• Selank — a synthetic analogue of the immunomodulatory peptide tuftsin, studied in anxiolytic-behaviour and neuroimmune research models.
