Why material-specific stability information matters more than a universal storage rule.
Storage is material-specific
Storage conditions depend on chemical form, formulation, container, solvent and intended analytical use. A lyophilised appearance does not establish a validated temperature range or shelf life. Use instructions supported for the exact material and keep the source of those instructions with the laboratory record.
Follow a documented protocol
Record the lot identifier, receipt date, condition on arrival, storage location and any relevant temperature excursion. For prepared solutions, also record solvent, concentration, preparation date and the governing protocol. Do not substitute a general internet rule for material-specific stability data.
Appearance is not a stability test
Powder colour, a clear solution or an intact seal cannot establish chemical integrity. Degradation and changes in measured content may require analytical investigation. A report at one date does not establish stability under every later handling condition.
When information is missing
Request the handling and stability information applicable to the exact product and size. If a validated expiry or storage condition is not available, record that gap and determine how your laboratory will control it. We do not assign a universal months-to-years shelf life to research materials.
