How to Store Research Peptides

Peptides are sensitive molecules. Once you have paid for verified, high-purity material, storage is what protects that quality between delivery and use. The two states β€” lyophilised powder and reconstituted solution β€” have different requirements.

Lyophilised (unreconstituted) vials

In freeze-dried form, peptides are relatively stable, but they are not indestructible. The enemies are heat, moisture and light.

  • Keep sealed until use. The stopper protects against moisture ingress. Lyophilised powder is hygroscopic β€” it draws in water from humid air, which accelerates degradation.
  • Store cool and dry. Refrigeration extends stability. For longer-term storage, a freezer is preferable for many compounds.
  • Protect from light. Store vials in their packaging or a dark container.

Handled this way, lyophilised research peptides remain stable for extended periods β€” often many months to years depending on the specific compound.

Reconstituted solution

Once dissolved, the clock speeds up. Peptides in solution are far more reactive.

  • Refrigerate. Store the reconstituted vial at fridge temperature, not at room temperature.
  • Use bacteriostatic water for reconstitution where a solution will be stored, not plain sterile water. The benzyl alcohol preservative suppresses microbial growth over the storage window.
  • Keep it sealed and use aseptic technique. Every time the stopper is pierced there is a small contamination risk; a clean swab and a fresh, sterile needle mitigate it.
  • Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Freezing and thawing a solution repeatedly stresses the peptide. If long-term storage of a solution is required, aliquoting into single-use portions before freezing is preferable to freezing and thawing one vial many times.

Why storage protects your results
